Grape Varieties
Síria
Origin: Portugal, predominately in the Beira Interior region.
Characteristics:
- Aromas: Fresh and delicate, with citrus notes (lemon, orange), stone fruit (peach, apricot) and a subtle floral touch.
- Flavor: Light and fresh, with vibrant acidity and a crisp texture. Produces refreshing wines with a long, harmonious finish.
- Wines: Síria is used to produce elegant and fresh white wines, often on its own or in blends, standing out for its ability to bring acidity and freshness to the blend.
Fernão Pires
Origin: Portugal, with a significant presence in the Beira Interior region, but also in Bairrada and Tejo.
Characteristics:
- Aromas: Intense and perfumed, with floral notes (orange blossom, jasmine) and citrus fruits (lemon, orange) accompanied by a touch of honey.
- Flavor: Fresh, with lively acidity and an aromatic profile that persists on the palate. It can develop complexity with age.
- Wines: Produces aromatic and fresh white wines, being versatile in both young wines, sparkling wines, and more complex blends.
Arinto
Origin: Portugal, with a significant presence in the Bucelas region.
Characteristics:
- Aromas: Fresh and vibrant, with citrus notes (lemon, lime), green apple, and slight mineral nuances.
- Flavor: Marked acidity, firm and refreshing structure, with a long, mineral finish. Contributes freshness and longevity to wines.
- Wines: Arinto is highly valued for its high acidity, being used both on its own and in blends, to provide freshness and structure, creating lively and long-lived white wines.
Rufete
Origin: Portugal, predominately in the Beira Interior and Douro regions.
Characteristics:
- Aromas: Delicate and elegant, with notes of red fruits (raspberry, cherry) and a slight floral touch.
- Flavor: Soft and light, with smooth tannins, balanced acidity, and a fresh, delicate finish.
- Wines: Rufete is used to produce fine and elegant red wines, often blended with other varieties, contributing lightness and freshness to the wines, with a subtle aromatic profile.
