Nuno Gomes, Brand Manager at Souvall, shares the history, resilience, and future of high-altitude wines on Paulo Rosa Abreu’s podcast.
Recently, Souvall was featured in episode 41 of the Pingolê podcast, hosted by influencer Paulo Rosa Abreu (Meia Gaiola). In a relaxed yet insightful conversation, our Brand Manager, Nuno Gomes, opened the doors to our winery and the Vale Flor vineyards to reveal what makes this project unique in the Portuguese wine scene.
The "Seara" Phenomenon and International Recognition
The conversation began with the staggering impact of the Seara 2023 wine following Meia Gaiola’s review. The result? Global reach, with inquiries and orders pouring in from Brazil, France, and Switzerland. Nuno recalled the memorable morning he woke up to dozens of messages and requests, which even temporarily overwhelmed online sales channels due to such high demand.
Resilience: The Heart of the Ferraz Family
One of the highlights of the interview was Nuno Gomes’ tribute to the owners’ resilience. The success of the Souvall project lies in teamwork and the determination to preserve the family legacy. Our journey has been defined by key milestones:
- Before 2017: Production was primarily dedicated to bulk wine.
- 2017: The construction of our own winery marked the beginning of a new era of quality and autonomy.
- 2023: A profound restructuring of distribution and brand image, focused on national and international expansion.
Beira Interior: The Territory That Defines Us
Souvall does more than just produce wine; it expresses a territory. Nuno highlighted the Beira Interior as a unique region, perfectly positioned to meet the challenges of climate change. The secret lies in its mountain character:
- Altitude: Vineyards situated between 650 and 750 meters.
- Terroir: Granitic soils that provide vibrant acidity and minerality
- Villamayor Wine: Identified by Nuno Gomes as the wine that best defines the project, recently having achieved organic certification.
The Legacy of Mr. Álvaro Ferraz and Artisanal Harvesting
The brand’s storytelling is rooted in tradition. Nuno emphasized the value of artisanal harvesting and the legacy of Mr. Álvaro Ferraz, whose stories continue to inspire our work in the vineyards today. This respect for the past ensures the authenticity of every bottle that reaches our customers’ tables.
Quality alone is not enough, but it is deeply rewarding to see the final result and someone enjoying our wine with pleasure.
— Nuno Gomes, Brand Manager Souvall
